HOUSTON -- The love of baseball brought out
dozens of people to help support a local family, Local 2
reported.
A marathon baseball game started at
12:00 a.m. Saturday. In the beginning, the stands were
crowded and energy was high.
"All of our friends play baseball. It's
a great cause," said Gordon Boswell.
The men are playing to help Bobby
Vincent, a Tomball resident who is in advanced stages of
ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
The father of two children was not at
the game, but close to 50 amateur league players made it a
priority to play.
"All the proceeds from this event will
go to Bobby and his family. This has affected his life and
his family and we want to give back to him," said organizer
David Fantin.
Fantin has played baseball his whole
life and founded the nonprofit organization Global Sports
Foundation Inc.
The two teams were Team Endurance and
Team Fortitude. Both teams had an all-male roster.
Team Endurance won 40-37. The game went
to 32 innings.
In all the game raised $19,000. Over
$1,000 was raised through a silent auction.
ALS is progressive neurodegenerative
disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal
cord which affects the motor neurons and the muscles
throughout the body.
